Energy Leader Teams with Environmental Nonprofit for Community Service Event in Catonsville!
The Friends of the Patapsco Valley & Heritage Greenway (PHG) in partnership with Constellation Energy are sponsoring a joint watershed clean-up in Catonsville off of Route 40 behind the Sweetwater Pool & Spa Center, 6619 Baltimore National Pike and the Mercedes Benz dealership, 6631 Baltimore National Pike on Friday, April 8!
40+ Constellation Energy employees and PHG volunteers from the Howard County Legacy Leadership Institute on the Environment, Howard Community College, the Community College of Baltimore County and the University of Maryland Baltimore County will remove debris from the Miller Branch area of the Patapsco Valley Watershed for approximately ¼ mile behind the businesses along Route 40. The area is littered with plastic bags and bottles, soda cans, fast food debris, and a wide variety of bulk items that include rusted metal, empty barrels, tires, bottles, packaging materials, boxes and a few shopping carts.
Rick Ayas, General Manager of the Mercedes Benz dealership and Connie Ashcraft of the Sweetwater Pool & Spa Center have graciously agreed to allow use of their properties to facilite this event. Registration for this community service partnership begins at 1:00 p.m. near the “green” fenced enclosure on the west end of the Mercedes Benz property. Jim Howard, Constellation Energy Manager of Health & Safety will open with a safety talk followed by Stream Captains, Dan Kovalsky, Susan Kane and Jim Apgar coordinating three teams that will remove and transport debris to an identified area behind the Sweetwater Pool & Spa Center.
